Which Way Is the Right Way?
Here in this multicultural society of ours, there are so many perspectives, so many religions, and so many choices. Which belief system is true? Are any true? In this post-modern era, people like to say that "the only absolute is that there are no absolutes." The culture scoffs at those who claim to have the
one and only way. But who's to say that the culture's got it right?
The Bible gives us this word of advice; and we'd do well to heed it: "There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death" (Proverbs 14:12). Every religion, culture, and philosophy that is founded on the ideas and ideals of mere men is destined for the fate of all men: death. As people die, so do their noblest and highest belief systems. No, what we need is a higher, surer way: a way that is not founded on humanity, but on the living God!
How Can I Find the Way to God?
So how can I find
God's way? How can I figure out the
true truth? Well, you can't, actually! The fact that it is
God's way and not
our way means that it is far beyond our grasp. As God Himself has said, "My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways my ways...For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways" (Isaiah 55:8,9). It would be like a miniscule ant living on some south Pacific island trying to find its way to an audience with the Queen of England! You see, not only are we as
nothing compared to God, but our sins have cut us off from His face. The Bible says, "But your iniquities have separated you from your God; and your sins have hidden His face from you" (Isaiah 59:2).
Who Will Show Me the Way?
The only answer is for God Himself to show us His way. God Himself must stoop down to our level and point us in His direction. This is exactly what we find in the person of Jesus Christ. Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father [God] except through Me" (John 14:6). Jesus came down from heaven to earth to show us the way to God.
There is no other religion that makes such a claim. There is no other cultural or religious leader who would dare to say such a thing. But Jesus Christ did, and He backed it up with more than words. He healed the sick, raised the dead, stopped a storm, and performed countless other miracles in the sight of many witnesses. However, the greatest proof He could offer was in His own death. For Christ was no ordinary man, and His death was no ordinary death. He willingly suffered on a cross and gave up His life to pay the price for all of our sins. Then, on the third day, God raised Him from the grave, and Jesus now lives forever on God's throne in heaven.
Will You Follow the Way?
Now Jesus invites us to come to Him and begin the journey on God's way: "Come to Me, all you who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls" (Matthew 11:28,29). Jesus has come to set us on the way to God; and He has sent His Holy Spirit to draw us to Him, and to help us find Him.
If you would like to come to Jesus and follow His way, you need simply turn from your old ways and trust in Jesus as your God and Saviour. You can do that even now as God's Spirit leads you and opens your heart. You may wish to pray along these lines: "Lord Jesus, I realize now that the ways of this world lead only to death, and that the sin in my heart has taken me far away from Your love. I repent of my old ways, I turn from my sins, and I believe in You as the only Way - the only One who died to save me and bring me back to God. Help me walk in Your way and do all that You ask me to do. Amen."
If you have come to trust in Jesus today, we would invite you to contact one of our pastors and let him know. He would like to help you as you start on this new way.
